Our Working Group on Girls met this afternoon, and interesting information and new directions were shared. A discussion paper for WGG on institutionalizing girl's rights within the CEDAW process is being worked on. A long range plan is to have girl's rights institutionalized at the UN so that ongoing concerted efforts to protect our youth will be better realized. A new task force within our WGG has been set up following the Newly Formed White Council on Women and Girls. One of our first effort will be to explore with Peggy Kerry, at the U.S. Mission, the mandate of both the Ambassador and the Council to further the empowerment of both women and Girls. Discussion of CSW 53 Agreed Conclusions as they related to an analysis from a Girls' Rights perspective were an important part of today's meeting. There were 8 instances where the conclusions were influenced by the WGG document, six of which were new ideas not contained in the draft. Our own critique was WGG asked too much to be inserted - we should
keep closer to the document theme, and be more focused.
