The planning committee for The 2010 NGO Global Forum for Women: Beijing Plus 15 "Through Her Eyes",
Renewing Commitment to Equality, Peace and Development was held yesterday. A brief draft was the agenda for the meeting, outlining speakers to be invited, NGO Regional Reports, Successes and Challenges,
projected Panel discussions covering the 12 Beijing+ 5 recommendations from multiple organizations reporting on countries implementations or lack of same, and practical ways in which to go forward.
Comments from the participants included careful review of what has been accomplished for women during these 15yrs, and what still remains to be done. What further sustained efforts still are in front of us to be addressed and with force, and how best to encourage governments that have been negligent, in caring out their commitments for women, to turn the page and act responsibly. Other suggestions offered were the importance to include in the projected meeting "Women, Peace and Security", with their input on women's issues, and recommendations that come out from the Cairo Conference. This is but a "first" in preparation for the Beijing Plus "15", celebration and review with intended dates, February 27-28th; this is planned for the weekend just before the beginning of the 54 Session of the CSW scheduled for March 1-12, 2010 at the United Nations. The venue for the 27th and 28th has not yet been confirmed; the only 'sure' is the celebration will be in New York.
