Education: The Role of NGO's and Civil Society in fostering Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development were the issues addressed by panelists in today's meeting. Caryl Stern, CEO for UNICEF reported that 69 million children are still without basic education opportunities, despite the many programs offered by UNICEF globally, seen in 12 million children offered education, child friendly schools set-up in 99 countries. Improvement happens when mothers are educated, and value the same for their children. Dr. Christopher Capuano, from Fairleigh Dickinson Univ. addressed "Education for Global Responsibility", the main objective at this univ.
No longer can Traditional Curriculums be justified; higher education must promote 'global consciousness' thru media, lecture series, exchange students, etc. Shula Koenig, from International Consortium: 'Human Rights As A Way of Life' encouraged civil society to engage human rights learning on all levels, and start fully participating in decisions impacting their daily lives. Ms. Riofrio, from Ecuador, spoke about the Nexus between Human Rights & Peace & Security. It was agreed by all speakers an inclusive education foundations an integrated society.
