Today's Panelists featured Dr. Shaanika, UN representative from Namibia, Ms. Stacy Roberts, from Expanding Your Horizons Network, Major General Shavenda, UN representative from Sri Lanka, and Sylvia Hordosch, Moderator from UN Women. The theme addressed related to "Access of women and girls to education, science & technology, women's equal access to full employment and decent work". Ms. Hordosch remarked that the last two yrs. of preparation for this meeting has been intense and thoroughly researched; the reports are available online.
Dr. Shaanika advanced the opinion that women & children are important agents in changing systems in Namibia. Education, jointly available for both girls and boys, must be a starting point
as a basic human right. Character building is the duty of both parents and gov't, he emphasized.
Ms. Roberts detailed the programs offered through EYH for Junior High School Students, aimed at encouraging young teenagers to follow a career in science & technology. From 1976 to the present, over 800,000 children have taken their courses; the aim of which is to create more women and youth in these fields.
