Meg's update: NGO CommitteeCSW56 Planning:5-2-11

Today's planning was a Brainstorming session for next year's event, the theme of which will be:
'The empowerment of rural women in relation to climate change and food security'. Members chose an Open Space topic of personal interest. 1. Coalitions with NGO's. Keypoints discussed were: coalitions can exchange ideas, influence planning, and delegates through side-events.
2. Consultation Day. what is it's purpose? Global women should be in on the planning; make sure training is appropriate for grassroots rural women. 3. Fund Raising: Prepare scholarships for people to attend; request production companies for video equipment; interns for media programs. 4. UN Women Collaboration: Meet with and work with CSW Bureau and UN Women; Regional groups should be involved at an early stage, giving grassroots reality and input. 5. Strategic Planning. Important to gain more information of the plans of other organizations for better coordination; meet with directors of UN Agencies to solicit their cooperation in order to attain our overall objectives and goals.
This Task Force plans to meet bi-monthly to best prepare for the 2012 event.
