Meg's update: US FENICC: 6-15-2011

The U.S. Faith & Ethics Network for the ICC updated the members on current events, the focus of their ongoing efforts for peace with justice. Bruce Knotts chaired the meeting with an update on several ICC activities. Cote d'Ivoire, elected president has called ICC to investigate Bagbo's human rights violation. Syria, neither Security Council nor ICC has taken up the issue; China and Russia with possible veto. Libya, the court may soon issue arrest warrants for Col Gaddafi for crimes against humanity. In solidarity, faith communities continue to work together to bring peace among all peoples. July 17th is International Justice Day, the birthday of the ICC. Communities are asked to celebrate its successes, and pray for a strong US engagement in international justice. The US is now an engaged participant in the ICC; it sends representatives to ICC meetings and make public statements backing the work of the Court; the US joined the international community by voting in favor of a unanimous Security Council resolution referring the situation in Libya to the ICC. Faith communities are asked to plan activities in support of the ICC.
