Meeting with Oscar Arias

On Saturday evening Rick and I went to a dinner at the home of a colleague from the Institute for Policy Studies. The guests of honor was the former president of Costa Rica and Nobel Laureate, Oscar Arias, his wife, Margarita Penon, and daughter, Sylvia Arias. It was so moving to be in the same room with someone who has done so much to work for sustainable peace. In a recent speech Arias writes of his vision of peace, which involves diverting military spending and redirecting it to education, health and building social capital.
