Meg's update: March 6th: Outlaw Pornography

The Coalition Against Trafficking of Women presented this most informative side-event. Dr. Jensen, professor from the University of Texas was the keynote speaker. He has been researching this topic for over twenty years. Pornography is rooted, he began, in feminine critique, racism, patriarchy, and inequality. He posed the question, "What does it mean to be a man"? A man is a human being. The male, socialized from birth to believe he is the superior gender, accounts for pathological behaviour and attitudinal changes as he acts out what he sees portrayed through pornography. What is played out is extreme violence - the victim always being the woman or the girl-child. Dr. Jensen likened pornography to a mirror, reflecting masculine power; fantasies follow, and the male's behaviour becomes erotic. All actions that follow, are violations against human nature, and human rights. A documentary was shown on how men act out there fantasies with women and girls. Horrible in the extreme! After the event, I asked one of the lawyers why pornography has not been outlawed. She cited the First Amendment as the reason.
