Meg' update: DPI Briefing, Feb. 18th, 10

Today's briefing on "Prevention, Prosecution and Protection: Trafficking of Women and Girls" brought together a most interesting panel of speakers. Ms. Alexia Taveau, from UNODC, Vienna, addressed projects focused on protection of victims, and prosecution of traffickers. Ms. Maggie Lazaridis, Greek Center for Missing and Exploited Children, responsible for international networking with agencies in locating missing children, and connecting with their families. Obstacles highlighted being corruption on all levels. Mr. Siddharth Kara, fellow from Kennedy School of Government was most articulate outlining the lucrative billion dollar business trafficking is; cut off the profits, and the traffickers become vulnerable to disruption.
