Meg's update: Feb. 19th: Crises; Opportunities for Change
Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference held at the UN featured many speakers on today's topic. Robert Orr, from UN Policy Planning, spoke on positive efforts being made in addressing the global crises of:energy, food, climate change, health, wars. Mr. Hassan Abbas, an expert on Afghanistan, backgrounded the history of some 50yrs. of conflict, and cautioned not to easily accepting victory on small successes achieved; reconciliation among all warring factors will not be immediate. Mr. Jomo Sundaram, expert on Economic Development researched briefly, for the group, the fragile global financial reality, with change coming about only by global commitment from all parties. Another change when Youth are committed to take up the challenges.
