Many new members joined today's meeting, eager to take part in CSW 56. Ms. Soon-Young Yoon, new Chair of the NGO Committee on the Status of Women, briefly explained its mandate to promote gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide. In preparation for next year's gathering, (Feb. 27-March 9th) two excellent papers were recommended readings:
"Addressing Rural Women's Needs-Focus on Indigenous Women" and "Women's Economic Empowerment". Small interest groups were formed to carry out necessary preparations to best realize the proposed goals. Special attention will be given to Rural Women delegates, making them feel very much a contributing part of the sessions, with amply time given them to voice their challenges and concerns. Partnership with UN Women will focus on mutual strong support
as both entities hold firm to women's ongoing empowerment in every aspect of their life.
As in the past, written statements of concern or ongoing support for proposed recommendations to be part of an Outcome Document, would be accepted; brevity was highlighted as a better way to get one's view accepted.
