Meg's update: WGG Meeing: Nov. 3rd, 2011

The Working Group on Girls is now a registered 501(c) 3 entity which brings with it a way forward not experienced in the past. Our Mission Statement, with a coalition of over 80 national and international non-governmental organization with representation at the UN remain dedicated to: promoting the human rights of the girlchild in all areas and stages of her; advancing the inclusion and status of girls and assisting them to develop their full potential as women. Our Task Force, protecting girls against violence, met to plan for CSW56 and a Side-Event which we will offer. A proposed theme is: Safety for Girls through Education, in the home, community, and in the larger society. An important feature to be presented through our speakers will also look at Best Practices that are being successfully carried out by agencies on the field as a learning for other regional participants. Our members were encouraged to use Social Media more as an effective vehicle to relate our concerns on issues that violate the basic human rights of girls, their dignity of person, and whatever would demean their well-being now and in the future.
