Unicef and The Graduate Program in Int. Affairs at The New School presented their 5th Annual Conf. Over these three days, 5 Sessions with over forty speakers addressed issues ranging from Strenthening Healthy Resistance in Girls; Evidence and Data Gathering; Global Economy; Technology Innovations; Climate Change, discussion from Haiti; Gender Analyses of Emerging Trends; The Way Forward. Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, in her brief message, phased it simply. Dignity and Respect are a Girl's Human Rights. Highlights of Day One. Focus on adolescent girls because of global negative experiences in their daily lives. New approaches through research have found strong early foundations laid in child care, educational opportunities, empowering them is key to economic and social dev. in the future. Day Two -
Global Economy. Gender gaps slow long-term economic growth. Empowering effects can be seen through social participation, learning networks. Keeping girls front and center in all works.
Day Three. Emerging Trends from all speakers voiced the need for partnerships, improving programs, better data analysis, listening to voices of our youth. Nicholas Kristof closed the meeting with stories that told of a new awakening among peoples to protect girls globally.
