Meg's Update: High Level Panel/Juvenile justicesystem10-8-12

The event was organized by: ODC/OHCHR/SRSG on violence against children. Her Highness Princess Mahidol of Thailand chaired the meeting. The joint report of 2012 aimed to strengthen protection of children from violence within the juvenile justice system. SRSG Ms. Pais emphasized "the criminal justice system should never be used for a weak child protection system.Mr. Wyrick, Advisor in US.Dept of Justice shared findings from research of good programs in place to protect children. Ms. Elda Moreno, EU representative said, "Nothing can be more anti-social than punishing chidren for being poor, homeless, hungry, abused and neglected".
