Last eveing, Susan and I attended an ecumenical service for the opening of High Level Discussion at U.N. on Millennium Development Goals: Partners for justice. The program presented was hosted by the MDG-NGO Convening Group in partnership with the Church Center for the U.N. The Tillman Chapel was filled, and the enthusiasm of the audience held throughout the evening.
Songa, an artistic interplay between a talented bassist and a drummer and voices crying out for justice as related to the 8 Goals was well done. Representatives from the High Level Commissions were present. One speaker, Ambassador John Menzies, Dean of Seton Hall University, gave a brief but poignant address; one line that I took home with me was, "Truth is that which unites us, and what unites us must be communicated". Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann was scheduled to speak, but at the last minute was unable to attend. Get emphasis was given to our partnership for action as these most important goals are discussed and furthered toward achievement. A tall order, but one that must be addressed and together.
