New Congress

Well, Washington has shifted into full swing since the new Congress was sworn in last week. There is a general sense of excitement and hope for genuine change -- at the same time a sense of sitting on the edge of ones seat to see what the new Administration will do. The situation in Gaza is so dreadful and is raising fear that Obama's team will not be able to break into new space - especially in this area.

Interaction with the Transition Team has been interesting. They have been gracious in accepting requests for meetings - but also overwhelmed. Kathy McNeely's participation in the Catholics in Alliance meeting was great. We've been in ongong "touch" to try to get a meeting for the FEE group - no luck thus far. Check out www.change.gov. The amount of material posted is enormous, though I do not see our proposals yet ...

A few "swearing in" parties gave us a chance to thank some of the best Members of Congress - one tried and true (Jim McGovern) and one brand new (Tom Perriello). Time will tell.
