Meg's update: UNODC.9-15-09. Human Trafficking

This afternoon's event at the UN featured Nicholas Kristof, and his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, Pulitzer Prize winning authors, as they shared highlights from their recent best seller, "Half the Sky". In their presentation, they highlighted the plight of young children, globally, who are and have been victims of human trafficking, and the injuries they carry throughout their adult life.
Story after story told of the efforts they have and are making to bring awareness of this horrific reality to a world audience. After the presentation, a book signing took place. The UNODC is the lead UN agency lighting all forms of human trafficking. It works with governments, the provate sectors andNGOs to combat human trafficking by engaging in preventative activities and enhancing the capacity and skills of criminal justice progessionals and policymakers. In 2007, UNODC launched UNGIFT, the Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking.
