Meg's update: November 11: Social Inclusion in Bihar, India
Sister Jyotisha Chacko, SND, a grass roots activitst from Bihar, India, shared some of the social problems she faces in Bihar, and ways in which her social center is working toward a fuller life for families that are socially eexcluded in a caste system of governance. To promote a socially inclusive society where all people are valued and their basic needs are met, the New Life Center (Navjeevan) first promotes the basic dignity of each person, development skills, consistent with community needs, and a political awareness of a caste system in which this population was born into. Awareness brings an ability to fight against such discrimination. The event was well received by the participants, and a clearer understanding of the injustices that exist in this part of India.
