Meg's update: November 2nd continued

A second meeting related to research on the progress and challenges remaining as we evaluate gov'ts implementation of Beijing,1995 recommendations. My report addressed L2, "Negative Cultural Attitudes and Practices Against the Girl Child." We learned that several NGOs efforts have brought educational opportunities for more girls in Asia, and especially through the activities of the Inter-African Committee. The European Union has also promoted many advanced programs in protection of children from birth, training programs in alternative rites of passage to avoid the harmful practice of FGM. Little positive data has been found to eliminate the root causes of son preference, reflected through diverse political, economical, social, cultural, and religious practices.
