Meg's update: 6/15/10: Decent Work: Fair Globalization

This side-event sponsored by Norway, with panelists from UN, Human Rights, Trade Unions, and Denmark addressed this issue with great passion and clarity. Heather Grady, Human Rights Advocate, stressed a basic human right for all begins at birth. She recommendated the need for reform at the macro level; foreign investments must comply with what is best for local economies. Ms. Gemma Adaba, Trade Union Director, said a major factor in all work must insure social protection for all, decent wages, good environment, gender equality, and decision making normative for workers. Ms. Marie Gad commented the lack of legislation enforcement aggravated injustices toward the workers. The final panelist, Mr. Michael Clark, highlighted the economic structural level is central to the problem as seen, among several other factors, when national resources cannot compete with global ones.
