Today at the UN an event was held to commemorate International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. In recognition of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the CRC today's event focused on the plight of children and families living in poverty, and the need to fulfill children's rights in partnership with them and in keeping with the Convention. Testimonies were heard on behalf of people living in poverty from Dominica, from a Youth Delegate to the UN, about the Children's Parliaments in India. This last testimony was especially interesting as it spoke of some thirty children that formed their own parliament addressing the problems in their own communities, critically challenging their own villages, district and government in areas of concern. A video "Children as Agents of Change" was shown and produced by the Marymount School of N.Y. A verse from the Commemorative Stone in Honor of Victims of Extreme Poverty was translated and recited by all in the conference hall. Today's event was sponsored UNDESA,
