Meg's Update: Human Trafficking, 12-20-12

In preparation for CSW57, UN Women held an informative side-event on global efforts to stem this modern form of slavery. Tania Farha spoke to child labor estimated to number 215 million of our children ages 5-17 globally; this form of  violence can only be corrected through comprehensive laws set by gov'ts and implemented, awareness campaigns, safe shelters to assist victims, and funding to carry out reforms. Ms. Laurie Phipps, U.S. Mission to U.N. addressed the numerous laws enacted by our gov't, i.e.
strenghening of federal contracts, training programs to assist trafficked victims, increased resources, and the need for all communities to be part of the solution.
