Today's event at the U.N. featured representatives from gov't, civil society, and importantly, voices from the field of those suffering from extreme poverty. It was noted that at the 2000 Millennium Summit, world leaders committed themselves to cutting in half by 2015, those living in extreme poverty; although gains have been made, still a recent FAO report cites 870 million people are affected by hunger, 60 million primary school-aged children remain out of school, an estimated 600 million lack clean water, and an alarming population lack access to sanitation facilities.
People living in poverty are critical partners, with us, in
fighting the challenges ahead.
