In preparation for CSW57, UN Women held a side-event, participants of whom were survivors of violence, who have used their experience to influence policy dev. and legislative reform in their countries and communities. Ms. Angarita from Colombia, a survivor of conflict related to land reform, influenced the Victims and Land Law passed in 2011; Ms. Akkaya, (Turkey) a domestic violence survivor and activist against honor killings, responsible for a new law against this crime; Ms. Eatock (Australia) a survivor of child sexual assault drafted the Rights of Indigenous Peoples accepted by her gov't. Ms. Burris,(U.S.A) surviror of rape, addressed the demand side of sexual
assualt. Founded SAGE, education center for victims.
