Congressional Leadership

Last week a small interfaith group met with staff of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid to talk about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both offices are looking forward to working with the new administration. We were able to talk about the importance of a US commitment to multilateral diplomacy in the region; to paying for reconstruction in Iraq; and to support for the millions of Iraqis who are displaced inside Iraq and living as refugees elsewhere. We also were able to insist that there was no military solution in Afghanistan. They were pretty non-specific, saying that they were waiting for the Obama Administration to take the lead on foreign policy, but were also in agreement that how the war ends will be key.
